"I'm sorry but it's new policy and every adventurer has to follow it".
Tiad Thundersung looked sternly at the man behind the desk, his silver breastplate was slightly tarnished with age, but a power crackled deep beneath its surface.
"Son do you know who we are?"
"I am aware, mr. Thundersung, but as I said policy..."
"Policy nothing." Thundersung's words cut the air. "If you know of me and my cohorts, then you know that we vanquished the dragon god, an Epic level quest. We together have killed more rampaging orcs, and slain more diabolists than you have had hot dinners. So tell me again that we have to start with a level one quest. Also its Lord Thundersung."
The little clerk shied away behind his desk. "I am so t-terribly sorry your Lordship" the little man stammered "but... but my hands are tied. All adventurers must work their way up completing quests at every level. We have no record of you and your cohorts doing any low level quests so and I'm afraid we must start you off at level one. Its company policy... sir."
Thundersung smoldered, and looked about to draw his sword (+4, vorpal), when one of the others stepped in, putting a hand on his shoulder. "Ty, don't worry about it" said the wizened man with runes beaded into his beard. "We only came to have a bit of fun, relive the glory days a bit, you know, what does it matter if we're killing the orc king or..." he pulled out some reading glasses and glanced down at the page in front of them, "Capturing some drunk and disorderly goblins". He took off the glasses and slotted them back into one of the many pockets on his robes. "Don't worry lad" he said talking down to the little clerk "We'll take the quest".
An hour later ---------
The Quartet crashed through the undergrowth on celestial steeds summoned by Hruphnet the Wise. The tiny pack of goblins broke in terror.
"Get back here you Bastards" Thundersung cried, wheeling his horse after them.
Hruphnet smiled and turned to the other two "How long should I give him before I just click my fingers and teleport them all into the net?"
The little one in dark black leather armour shrugged. She was covered in more knives than a psychopathic chef's knife block, but she didn't make a single sound as she moved.
"You know if you take that bloody helmet of quiet off you can talk as normal. Its not like you need it for this quest."
The little lady just shrugged and turned back to watching the warlord chasing a pack of goblins around with a net.....
One hour later-------------
The door to the adventurers guild banged open as the Quartet strode in.
"Did you see me spank that goblin with my sword as I rode past" Thundersung yelled, followed by a barking laugh.
Hruphnet stood in front of the clerk again with a smile on his face. "Hello again."
The clerk squirmed a little under his gaze.
"We finished that quest." he continued " and I noticed it had written on it 'expected to take 2-3 days' but we couldn't wait that long. We were hoping another quest."
"Erm, of course Mr. The Wise, I'll go grab the scrolls for the level two quests and..."
"Actually I was hoping we could save ourselves some time. Just grab us a random quest from the level two to level sixteen piles and we'll be on our way. Should keep us busy for a day or two!" He grinned, showing off the arcane runes on his very white teeth."
"erm... "
"What? Is it against policy to take multiple quests at once?"
"well no..." Sputtered the little clerk.
"Well whats the problem then? Just get us the scrolls and we'll be out of your hair."
The clerk looked at the four of them. One wizard so powerful it was said he had moved a continent, a warlord who had struck the final blow on a dragon god, an assassin of such mastery it was said she had killed five different men, on three different planes, in one evening, using a spoon. And ofcourse... he tried not to look at the last one. Too scary.
In that moment he made a decision. He wanted them out of his hair.
Fifteen minutes later Hruphnet walked out with his arms full of quest scrolls, followed by the other three loudly (or in one case silently) chatting.
